Fishing
report for Kerr/Buggs Island Lake
March 3, 2010
Striper: Fish starting to get active
in major creeks like Grassy, Rudds and Eastland. Most fish are being
found shallow on points using crankbaits. Average fish are weighing 4 to 8 lbs.
Crappie: Crappie fishing has picked up. There are alot of reports of
good catches. Most fish are being caught using the trolling method.
Fish are located in the flats of major creeks toward the rivers. Fish change
depths and color choices daily. Water temps are 40 - 45 degrees. Water
clarity is stained to muddy.
Bass: High water, cold and muddy makes for some of the worse conditions
for bass fishing. A few fish are being caught mostly on places you
can get to the bank with red clay or rock. Fishermen mostly are using crankbaits,
jerkbaits and rat-l-traps. With warm weather in the forecast and a
little less water in the lake, things will pick up fast.
Catfish: Blues are mostly the only thing being caught and not really
a lot of them, but some of the ones being caught are nice size fish.
The fish that are being caught are in deep holes and channel edges around the Bluestone to Buffalo area's
of the main lake. The primary baits being used are cut crappie and
cut shad. The water temps are rising and the fishing should pick up the pace as the fish feed for their
run up the river.
